Centinela del Cóndor - Zamora Chinchipe - Ecuador

Centinela del Cóndor is in the navel of the province of Zamora Chinchipe, it is also known as the "Ecological Garden of the Amazon". The origin of its name is because it is one of the entrances to the Cordillera del Cóndor.

This canton enjoys an exquisite variety of ethnic groups because in the canton, more than the Hispanic population, we can find worthy representatives of the Shuar and Saraguro ethnic groups, who contrast with the diversity and charms of the Amazon region. The majority of the population is dedicated to agriculture and gastronomy.

Centinela del Cóndor is a tangible paradise of the Ecuadorian Amazon, its people are friendly, and welcome tourists with open arms and willing to put at your disposal its beautiful and exuberant nature. Its inhabitants celebrate their cantonization every 21 March.

The cultural resources of a town are of great historical value, since they contribute to the conservation of traditions and customs, so our Canton is not the exception since we have two ethnic groups such as: Shuar ethnic group, Saraguro ethnic group

Shuar ethnic group.- This community still maintains some of its customs and traditions such as the elaboration of: chicha, traditional medicine with plants extracted from nature, language, clothing, dance, crafts such as: elaboration of changuinas, necklaces, spears, crowns of feathers among others and their instruments, hunting and fishing tools.

Ethnicity Saraguro.-Even they use their traditional clothing, dance, music, gastronomy, they also devote themselves to the development of crafts such as: necklaces in different models, clothing of their ethnicity and hats.

Tourist Attractions in the Centinela del Cóndor Canton

Las Lianas Waterfall

Located in the Panguintza Alto neighborhood, to reach it you must travel 1,040 meters; crossing a path, from which you can see a variety of orchids and birds. This waterfall is in the middle of several lianas that serve as entertainment for tourists and is famous for its 37 m fall; It is a favorite place for those who prefer to enjoy natural whirlpools.

Spa Playas de Zumbi

Located 1 km from the city, where you can go hiking and camping.

Cascada San Francisco

It is located in the neighborhood San Francisco la Wintza neighborhood, a 40 minute walk from the town center. It has an approximate height of 25 m., It is also known as Bustling and in the course to the waterfall you can see a variety of flora and fauna. In addition, it is an ideal place for photography.

Tuntiak Lagoon

This lagoon is located in the Tuntiak neighborhood, 20 kilometers from the city of Zumbi; site surrounded by vegetation typical of the region and inhabited by natives of the Shuar ethnic group, where one of the activities that is practiced is sport fishing.

Monastery of Santa Clara

Located in the Central District, in the Monastery you can observe and acquire the products made by the religious such as: hand and machine embroidery, pastries, wafers and wines made with: grape, quince, lemon, passion fruit, naranjilla and blackberry.
